The Bolivar Liberators (3-0) took on their old district rival the Warrensburg Tigers (6-0). Warrensburg brought in an experienced senior laden team with lots of talent. Bolivar was able to take the opening kick and control the first nine minutes of the game. In the ninth minute, Toad Slagle took and in-direct kick that found the foot of Bradley Stillwagon and into the net to give the Liberators the 1-0 lead. Warrensburg got fired up after that and came at Bolivar really hard, but was unable to convert any goals past the Liberator defense. In the second half, Warrensburg would tie the game when #3 Shane Luehrs went unmarked and recieved a cross ball and blasted it past keeper Dale Baker. This was the first goal allowed by the Liberators this season. Bolivar would answer a couple of minutes later when Carlo Frasseto was hit in the hip and taken down in the box. Toad Slagle took the pk and scored to put the Liberators back up 2-1. The warrensburg goalie was soft red carded after the play and the Liberators took advantage of the new keeper by putting in two more goals within the next five minutes. Matt Magana made an outstanding play to win the ball from his defender and then took on the keeper one-on-one…..Magana came out on top with the Liberators 3rd goal of the night. A couple of minutes later Magana would assist Bradley Stillwagon’s second goal of the night to put the Liberators up 4-1. Warrensburg never gave up and still pressed hard and was able to get one more goal in themselves by #14 Josh Taylor.
Although the Liberators did not look particularly sharp tonight, that battled hard and found a way to win against a very good team. Way to go Liberators!
