The Liberators traveled to Springfield tonight to take on class 3 Springfield Hillcrest. It was a tale of two halves for the Liberators who faced a much improved Hillcrest squad. Bolivar struck first when Carlo Frasseto scored his first varsity goal with an assist from Matt Magana. Carlo found the ball as it bounced thru and several bodies in the box, settled it to his feet and turned and fired past the keeper. Hillcrest would tie the score a little later when a crossed ball traveled thru the air across the box and found a Hillcrest player backside who finished the shot past Dale Baker. Just a minute later, the Liberators would go back up on top when Bradley Stillwagon finished a header shot into the back of the net. Magana again on the assist. Hillcrest would tie the game before half with a 25 yard shot by Bryce Collier. Although tied at half, the Liberators felt as if their play had been sluggish and not real strong. They were challenged at half by the coaches and the Liberators responded very well. Bolivar came out in the second half and dominated nearly the entire half and only gave up one shot to the Hornets. The defenense did a great job of keeping the ball in our offensive third of the field nearly the entire half. Toad Slagle, Landon Grider, Seth Hopwood, Ryan Ladd and Sterling Roberts really stepped up their game in the second half and played well as a unit in the back. The midfielders and forwards did their part to keep up the attack and was able to get off 19 shots in the half. Senior Jake Condren finished off the Hornets with two perfectly placed shots from the top of the 18 that found their way past the keep and into the net.
Great job Liberators as they improve thier record to 6-0 on the season. The Liberators will be tested heavily as they will have five games next week. The first three games against the Springfield class 1’s: Greenwood, Catholic, and New Covenant. They will play Clinton on Friday and then Saturday’s opponent will either be Warrensburg, Marshfield, or Greenwood. Get ready for some intense action next week fellas.
