On a wet and windy night, the Liberators would need 92 minutes to defeat the Marshfield Bluejays. Bolivar opened up a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes with two unassisted goals by junior Kyle Slagle. Marshfield would get one in before the half when #21 (?) shot a ball from 25 yards that went thru the hands of the keeper. Marshfield would tie it up in the 50th minute (est.) when Robert Martin won a ball that was deflected off a defender, the keeper and then another defender. The Liberators who were banged up in the midfield, struggled to gain any rythm or flow, but the defense held strong to take the game to overtime. In overtime, the Liberators stepped up their game and contolled most of the flow from that point on. Slagle got his 3rd of the night on a 60 yard free kick. Toad took the kick from beyond midfield. The ball bounced once, Matt Magana, the keeper and a defender all went up for the ball. The keep got his fingertips on it, but the momentum carried the ball into the net for the golden goal! The Liberators improve their record to 11-5 and are still undefeated against district opponents! As a interesting side note, four of the five goals scored tonight were with the wind and rain.

Congratulations guys on a gut wrenching win. It was not pretty for us, be we got the job done. Let’s get healthy and focused as Willard comes to our house Thursday.
