Bolivar High School played it’s first varsity season of soccer in 1995. Lance Lovelace led the team to a winning record in the first season, but lost in districts finals to rival Skyline. Coach Lovelace resigned later that year and the search for a new coach was underway. Steve Fast came to be the next head coach of the Liberators in 1996. Fast continues to lead the Liberators today. The Liberators have had many successful seasons over the years including back to back state final four appearances in 1998 and 1999. In the 1998 state semifinal action, the Liberators had their best opportunity to reach the state championship game, but gave up two goals in the last four minutes to eventual State runner up Park Hill South. The Liberators would fall to St. Francis Borgia in the third place game 0-3. The Liberators would bring back a strong senior class for the 1999 season. Although, not as powerful on the offensive end, they continued to play excellent defense. That defense would carry the team back to the final four. The Liberators lost in state semi-final action to Whitfield 0-2. Whitfield had a very strong offensive team that averaged four goals per game.
Over the years the Liberators have enjoyed many successful seasons. Bolivar soccer has recorded 10 winning seasons in 13 years of varsity soccer. All the hard work and dedication from the players, coaches, and families has really paid off. Most importantly though, the Liberators work hard each year at being good sportsman and represent the Bolivar community well.
